SOD is the most high quality, brutal and uncompromising magazine covering every facet of the Extreme Metal scene. Beggining life in 1991 as Sounds of Death, the magazine was originally a xeroxed fanzine. The zine caught on, and SOD rapidly grew into a professional magazine. Issued two to three times per year, by 2003 we had released 20 issues. With the release of number 20, we felt that we had accomplished everything that we could with the current format of the magazine, so we decided that a major change was in order. We renamed the magazine ANVIL, and switched over to a full color, slick format. Four issues later, we decided this new name change idea was a stupid fucking thing to do, so now the Beast is back, and we are calling ourselves SOD once more. Our focus now, as ever, is on the most extreme and brutal underground music presented with an uncompromising attitude and slick production values.
